"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. " [Psalm 2:5-7]

Dear church family,
I am back from Mexico and have enjoyed another really great mission trip. I have lost track of how many years we have gone to Rancho Sordo Mudo, but I am continually impressed what a wonderful ministry that has been for so many years. The Portola team was able to get a lot done again this year. Instead on one big project, we worked on many different projects, from construction, sheetrock, painting, wiring, digging, sewing, cooking, cleaning and fixing cabinets. There is work there for lots of different skill levels. We had such a capable team again this year.

On the way back from Mexico I stayed in LA to visit my son Steven for a couple of days. As a result I missed a second week of church here at Portola Station. I really missed being here and seeing all of you. Thanks to Dave and Brad for filling the pulpit and thanks to all those who make church happen week to week. I also heard that Greg and Brian Cheney really blessed all those who were in church.

There are always lots of things coming up here at the church. A group will be at the Family Life Marriage Conference this weekend. I am sure that it will be a great conference to build their marriages even stronger. Deb and I have loved the conference in the past.

A group of men are going to the Men’s Conference at Hume lake, and our Women’s Conference is the same weekend. (April 25-26th) I am looking forward to hearing what God has done in hearts at these two events.

Church Work Day

I would love to see lots and lots of people here at Portola Station for as much of our Work Day as you can. We know that this old building is a gift from God and we want to be sure that we take care of it. There will be lots to do so please put Friday and Saturday May 16-17 on your schedule. Come for a few hours or come for both days.

This morning (Friday) I was visiting with a woman in town and somehow the conversation turned around to spiritual things. It was fun to talk about the Lord. I was reminded that we have a privilege and responsibility to let our “light shine” and then to share the great news that we have been entrusted with. I know that I need to keep the lost world that is all around us in the forefront of my mind.

Looking forward to worshipping with you,

Dennis
